Brown University · Commencement Weekend
A 2,000 sq ft designer loft, a ten-minute walk to Brown's campus and across the street from the medical school. Room for eight — the graduate, parents, siblings, grandparents, plus one. Books up a year in advance.
Why Families Return Year After Year
Across the pedestrian bridge, through the Jewelry District, up College Hill. Skip the commencement weekend traffic jam entirely. Walk to the ceremony, walk to the reception, walk home.
Three bedrooms, two master suites, 2.5 baths, a dining table for 10, a kitchen designed for real cooking. Parents, siblings, grandparents, and your graduate — one roof, one morning coffee together.
For families with a graduate from the Warren Alpert Medical School or Brown's graduate programs, the loft is directly across the street from the medical school. The shortest commute in the neighborhood.
Providence's downtown parking disappears during commencement weekend. Every hotel guest hunts for street spots. PVD Loft includes one gated, off-street parking space — your car is safe, and you never have to move it.
The private garden has a dining table for six, a fire pit, and a BBQ. The loft has been the setting for more graduation toasts than we can count. Guests who stay in hotels miss this entirely.
Families come back. Many of the commencement bookings each year are repeat guests whose younger siblings are now graduating too. The loft is set up specifically for this kind of stay.
From Previous Brown Commencement Guests
"We stayed for Brown Graduation and the city literally becomes flooded with people and prices rise. The loft was an oasis and truly peaceful. The location was splendid and was walkable to Brown and right across the street from the medical school."
"Fantastic location for Brown graduation! Around the corner from the Brown shuttle stop, walking distance to restaurants and coffee shops, and right across from the pedestrian bridge to College Hill. Spacious and very comfortable with nice outdoor seating, parking and central air conditioning."
"We loved it. Gorgeously and comfortably appointed. Four of us were in Providence to drop our son off for his freshman year at Brown. Plenty of room for all to relax, sleep and to work while we were there. Walking distance to our son's dorm and other parts of Brown."
Planning Notes
Brown Commencement is traditionally held on the last weekend of May, with the undergraduate ceremony on Sunday and advanced degree ceremonies over the preceding days. Check brown.edu/commencement for the current year's schedule.
Commencement weekend is the single most in-demand weekend of the year in Providence. PVD Loft's commencement dates typically fill 10–12 months in advance, often with repeat guests. If you know your child is graduating next year, book now.
During commencement weekend, Airbnb's minimum stay is typically set to 4 nights to ensure families have time to enjoy the weekend without back-to-back turnovers. This matches how Brown families actually use the weekend — arrive Thursday, ceremonies through Sunday, depart Monday.
The dining table seats 10 indoors, and the garden dining setup seats another 6. Many Brown families host an intimate family dinner at the loft on Saturday or Sunday evening — something no hotel room can offer. Please note Airbnb's occupancy and guest-count policies.
